Bobby Anspach: The Beautiful Nothing, a collaborative exhibition with SPRING/BREAK Art Show and the Bobby Anspach Studios Foundation, will be on view at 38 Little West 12th Street in New York's Meatpacking district, from September 19 to November 10, 2024.
The exhibition features two of Anspach's seminal sculptures—immersive sound, light, and motion machines—alongside a series of his drawings. These works, part of his Place for Continuous Eye Contact series, exemplify Anspach's innovative approach to expanding human awareness through art.
Bobby Anspach (1987–2022) was an American artist known for his unique blend of sculpture and invention. His practice, deeply rooted in meditation and environmental consciousness, sought to create transcendent experiences for viewers.
Curator Saul Ostrow notes, "Bobby Anspach's works invite you on an extraordinary journey of awareness and connectivity. His machines create an immersive space that initially appears chaotic but quickly transports you to psychedelic worlds or takes you on a meditative journey. Subsequently, each visitor embarks on a uniquely distinct and meaningful voyage of self-discovery."
The exhibition is accompanied by a series of Thursday evening activations, including talks, cocktail hours, and meditation sessions. These events, featuring collaborators such as ambient musician Eluvium and the Reality Center, aim to contextualize Anspach's work within broader dialogues on meditation, psychology, and creativity.
In conjunction with the exhibition, the Bobby Anspach Studios Foundation will launch a grant program in 2025, supporting creatives and researchers whose work furthers the dialogue on meditation, psychology, and creativity as drivers of global harmony and health.
